Public Transportation

The public bus transportation service is provided by the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA), which offers bus routes throughout the city, some of them connecting the city with the suburban areas. Due to Hurricane Katrina, RTA lost more than 200 buses, fact which made the waiting period of 30 to 60 minutes.

The city is also served by Amtrak, with the New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal as the main rail depot, which is served by 3 trains: the Crescent, which runs between New Orleans and New York, the City of New Orleans which runs between New Orleans and Chicago and the Sunset Limited, which operates trough New Orleans, between Orlando and Los Angeles.

New Orleans is mainly served by I-10, I-610 and I-510.

I-10 - also known as the as the Pontchartrain Expressway - travels east/west through the city.

I-610 - serves as a direct shortcut for traffic - passes through New Orleans, via I-10.

I-510 - travels in the eastern section of the city - runs south from I-10, intersecting with US Highway 90 and ending at the Almonaster Boulevard interchange.

Other major roads in New Orleans are: US 90, which travels through the city, US 61, which terminates in downtown New Orleans and US 11, which terminates in the eastern portion of the city.

From Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport: Start by heading northwest on Airport Road, toward S Access Road. Make a slight left to stay on Airport Road and take the ramp on the left, onto I-10 E. Continue onto I-610 E (follow the signs for I-610 E/Slidell) and take exit 2A for St. Bernard Avenue. Turn left at St Bernard Avenue and continue onto Oriole Street. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Lakeshore Drive. UNO's campus will be located somewhere on you right.
